The codes that you will see before or after the text of the illustrations refer to where that illustration was originally published. Here is what they mean:

• PEOct95 = Parables, Etc. October, 1995 (at beginning of illustration).
  
  
• SFOct95 = The Pastor's Story File, 1995 (at beginning of illustration).
  
  
• IOWJulAug93 = In Other Words... July-August issue 1993 (at end of illustration). In certain cases the IOW material will only contain the date (95) because the issue was not defined.
  
  
• NIRR = National and International Religion Report (at end of illustration with issue volume and number).
  
  
• Illustrations with only a number at the end in the range from 1-1583 identify the material from Illustration for Biblical Preaching. The number corresponds to the illustration's number in the book.
  
  
• All other material is from Preaching magazine with the volume and number referenced (at end of illustration).
